About Jeff Howell
Jeff Howell has represented the interests of health care providers for over 22 years as a licensed Florida attorney, lobbyist, and advocate for health care professionals and executives. He is a partner in the Tallahassee law firm of Howell, Buchan & Strong, Attorneys at Law. Howell’s background includes:
- 1989-1990 Staff Counsel, Senate Committee on Health Care, Florida Legislature.
- 1990-1991 Associate Attorney, Henry, Buchanan, Mick & English,representing hospital clients, physicians, and insurers.
- 1991-1994 Partner, Law Offices of Jeffrey S. Howell, representing health care providers, insurance companies, and legislative clients.
- 1994-1998 Senior Associate, Boehm, Brown, Seacrest, Fischer & LeFever, representing workers compensation insurers, legislative clients, and General Counsel to a rural hospital.
- 1998-1999 Chief Executive Officer, Madison County Memorial Hospital & Health Care Systems, Inc.
- 2000- Present Partner, Howell, Buchan & Strong, Attorneys at Law, representing health care professionals, providers, insurers, and employers in litigation, adminstrative, and regulatory matters.
Since 2002, Jeff Howell has served as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Care Manage, School of Allied Health Sciences at Florida A & M University in Tallahassee. He teaches courses entitled Health Care Law, Legal Aspects of Health Care Administration (Graduate) , Health Policy & Politics, and Current Issues in Health Policy (Graduate Level). Many of his students have went on to manage health care enterprises, work in risk management or corporate compliance, and/or attend Ivy League graduate schools.
Howell is also a Certified Civil Court Mediator, certified by the Supreme Court of Florida. In 2006, he launched www.floridahealthcareattorney.com to provide basic information to providers who have disputes with state and federal health care agencies.
